Welcome to The Castle
A Pub With History, Character and Community
Situated in the historic village of Halton, overlooking Runcorn and the Cheshire landscape, The Castle offers a unique combination of local history, traditional hospitality and community spirit.
Occupying an extraordinary historic building beside the ruins of Halton Castle, the pub welcomes local residents, visitors, motorcycle enthusiasts and anyone looking to discover one of the area’s most distinctive venues.
Under the stewardship of Helen Riley and Mike, The Castle has developed into a welcoming community destination where people can meet, relax and enjoy regular gatherings, entertainment and special events.

Almost 1,000 Years of History

The Castle stands on a site with almost 1,000 years of history. Halton Castle was founded around 1070–1071 and later played an important administrative and military role. In 1737, a courthouse and prison were built on the former gatehouse site before becoming a hotel in 1909 and later the pub visitors enjoy today. The Grade II* listed building retains its Georgian character and historic Courtroom, standing beside the nationally important medieval castle ruins.

Traditional Hospitality in a Remarkable Setting
Step inside The Castle and discover a friendly pub filled with character.
Historic architecture, a traditional bar and welcoming seating areas create a relaxed setting for meeting friends, enjoying refreshments or taking a break while exploring Halton and Runcorn.
Whether visiting for a regular gathering, community event, private celebration or an informal drink, guests can expect a warm welcome from Helen, Mike and The Castle team.
